The Air Jordan 2, 1986, was originally made in Italy, took its faux lizard skin and swooping lines from the Nike Air Python, and was the first Jordan without a Nike Swoosh on the upper. Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore are credited

Built at the Sport Time factory in Italy because that was the only place the cushioning could be made at that height; the Swoosh was left off because Peter Moore was already working on separate branding; a $100 retail price, described as outlandish at the time; debuted in the Bulls' 1986-87 season opener at Madison Square Garden, where Jordan scored 50 against the Knicks. Bruce Kilgore: "Italy was the solution to the problem because the only way at that time to provide the cushioning and bring the height down was in Italy." Ron Hill, who oversaw Nike product merchandising in the eighties and nineties: "If it looked like a Nike, we failed."
