Everything we hold on this shoe: 1 written piece, 1 out now at retail.

Look up the Pegasus and you will be told 1983. Nike's own account says 1982. It was out in 1982, went wide in early 1983 and sold nearly 300,000 pairs inside 6 months.

What we have written

Every piece, with the place each claim came from underneath it. Where we could not reach a source we say so instead of quietly leaving it out.

The shoes fact

Look up the Pegasus and you will be told 1983

The Pegasus launched in 1982 and rolled out more broadly in early 1983, selling nearly 300,000 pairs within six months. It was developed at Nike's Exeter, New Hampshire facility: Mark Parker led the Air Wedge trainer project, Bill Peterson designed the outsole and Bruce Kilgore gave input on the upper. The idea was a heel only Air unit placed at the point of impact, at a target price around $50
